Teak was commonly used to make outdoor furniture and other things which require resistance to the elements.

Teak is a popular wood for outdoor furniture both because of it's natural durability in extreme whether situations, and also because of it's relative rarity. Being more expensive than most other woods, teak furniture became something of a status symbol. Not only is it common for a teak bench, chair or table to last 100's of years standing out in the elements, it is also common to pass down such furniture to future generations as an heirloom.  As was probably the case with the stool featured in this auction.

This early stool has wanterful aged wood (almost a patina like quality) that showcases its age.  Fantastic curviture to the seat portion.  Extremely smooth (over the years this stool has been used so much that the use of the stool has smoothen the surface of the seat...quite remarkable).  Measures and impressive:  43.18 cm x 25.4 cm x 50.8 cm
