17th Century carved side chair with through tennons and turned columns.  35 3/4"h x 17"w x 19d

This is a very fine 17th Century Spanish Renaissance Oak Medieval Chair circa 1650.
With scrolled stiles centering an arcaded splat alternating with turned finials over a trapezoidal plank seat raised on block and legs.
The shaped crested carved with a fountain of pendant leaves/cartouche enriched with punch work and having the voluted scrolls forming the terminals above the shaped columns. The back panel moulded and gouge carved with a lozenge & fleur-de-lis motifs. The boarded seat raised on legs joined to the rear stile supports by a peripheral stretcher. It has a very rich patina and would look impressive at home, in a museum or period house. It has small repairs but this does not detract from its beauty. All in all a fine rare chair, it has also been authenticated, by leading specialists.
