Description:
An excellent 19th century period victorian American eagle weathervane. Vane
and eagle are in exceptional condition. It appears the eagle is made of pressed copper soldered or welded together and later gilted. This eagle weathervane has a wonderful typical antique story being found in a barn in Minnesota. I dont think the vane was mounted long since the only hole is a seam hole on one of the wings as shown in the photo. The gilt is almost all there. This is one of the finest Weathervanes, and this subject and style is highly collected by individuals and museums. The arrow fins are missing. Size 22" wingspan, 22.5 arrow length, approx 17" from tip of wing to post.
